How to Tell When an Excel File Was Uploaded
You can upload data from Excel and CSV files to eazyBI and then create reports, charts and dashboards from these data.
Please at get-go read near eazyBI cubes, dimensions, and measures – you lot will need to understand the multi-dimensional data model to be able to map source file columns to cube dimensions and measures.
Upload files
Go to theSource Data tab and select the source file for upload.
If you upload CSV files and so apply eithercomma (,) orsemicolon (;)field separators.Decimal values should always useperiods (.) equally decimal separators. Commas (,) in integer and decimal values will be ignored (e.g. if they are used every bit thousands separators).
If you upload Excel files and then integer, decimal, and date fields will be detected based on Excel cell formatting.
If the source CSV file contains non-English language characters and then the CSV file should be in UTF-8 encoding every bit otherwise, yous might receive error messages when previewing the uploaded file.
If your original non-English information are in Microsoft Excel so upload these Excel files as Excel export to CSV does non back up UTF-8 encoding.
After the CSV file is uploaded you tin clickPreview to specify source file columns mapping.
Source file preview
In the source file preview, you can enter the datacube name where yous would similar to import your data. If this is new data set then enter a new cube name (east.g.Sales cube if you are importing sales transactions). You can too import a new file in the existing data cube – in this case, you can use either existing cube dimensions and measures or specify new ones (which will exist added to the existing cube during import).
eazyBI allows data import from one sheet of the Excel file. The preview will show the first sheet of the file.
It is recommended that the CSV file has aheader row with column names - eazyBI will effort to observe if your CSV file has a header row or not. If eazyBI has detected information technology incorrectly then please change the number of header rows (e.g. specify 0 if you practise non take any header row).
eazyBI will endeavour to detect each source file columndata type based on the first 100 rows of the source file. Detected column types (cord, integer, decimal, date, ordatetime) are shown below each column proper name. If some cavalcade type is detected incorrectly then y'all can change it (e.g. change frominteger tocord if this column might contain likewise non-integer values).
Column mapping to dimension and dimension level
Next, you demand to map source file columns to cube dimensions and measures.
By default, eazyBI volition suggest mappingstring columns to the dimension with a proper noun which is derived from column proper noun (underscores replaced with spaces, each give-and-take is capitalized). If necessary so you can enter a different dimension name that you would like to use in eazyBI.
Yous tin map each column to a separate dimension only sometimes it would exist better to map several columns to theaforementioned dimension just different hierarchy levels. In this example, it would exist improve to mapland,state_province,city, andfullname to the sameCustomersdimension with hierarchy levelsState (highest bureaucracy level),State Province (one state expands to several states or provinces),Urban center(ane state or province expands to several cities),Customer Proper noun (one city expands to several private customers). It is important that in the source filehierarchy level columns are always in the sequencefrom the highest hierarchy level to the lowest hierarchy level.
When you map several columns to the same dimension and then you lot can select the existing dimension name from the listing for the following columns (delete suggested default dimension name to come across the list of available dimension names).
If yous map several columns to the aforementioned dimension then information technology is mandatory to specify the dimension hierarchy level for each column. By default, the hierarchy level name will exist generated from the column proper noun (in the aforementioned way as the default dimension name). If necessary then you can enter a different dimension bureaucracy level name.
Ignore columns
If you would like to ignore some columns during import (do not want that these columns are imported) and then you should get out dimension choice blank for this column.
Time dimension
Date ordatetime cavalcade by default will be mapped to theTime dimension. Time dimension afterwards import will automatically createtwelvemonth, quarter, month, andday hierarchy levels also equally an additional weekly hierarchy withtwelvemonth, calendar week, andmean solar day hierarchy levels. Therefore yous should not provide whatever dimension hierarchy level information in source file mapping equally fourth dimension hierarchies volition exist created automatically.
Y'all should use one of the post-obitengagement formats in your CSV file that eazyBI will recognize equally appointment format and you will be able to import it equally Fourth dimension dimension:
- YYYY-MM-DD
- YYYY.MM.DD orDD.MM.YYYY
- YYYY/MM/DD orMM/DD/YYYY
The followingdatetime formats are recognized (currently merely the date part of the datetime value will exist imported in the Time dimension):
- YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ssorYYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss (ISO 8601 datetime format)
-
YYYY.MM.DD hh:mm:ssorDD.MM.YYYY hh:mm:ss
-
YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm:ss orMM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss
Measures and integer and decimal columns
Numeric columns (integer anddecimal data types) by default will exist mapped toMeasures and you need to specify mensurate names for these columns (by default derived from column names). Measures are values that y'all would like to analyze beyond other dimensions and which will be aggregated past other dimensions hierarchy levels.
If you accept other integer values (most typically east.g. identifier columns like customer ID or order ID etc.) in source file columns so do not map them to Measures - either enter corresponding dimension proper noun or go out dimension proper noun blank to ignore them during import.
Cavalcade mapping and import errors
When you have completed columns mapping to dimensions and measures then clickStart import to import source file data into the specified data cube. If there volition be any missing information in source file columns mapping so yous will get an error message most missing data and columns with errors volition be highlighted:
If there are no cavalcade mapping errors then source file import volition exist started in the background and you will see file import status (and how many rows are imported) which will automatically refresh.
If all source file rows will be imported successfully then the source file status at the cease will alter toImported.
If there volition be whatsoever errors during source file import and so it will stop on the kickoff error with theFault status. You lot can click on theError link to encounter the detailed mistake message. The detailed error bulletin will show the line number together with the line content and data about the error. The most frequent mistake is invalid quotes within a quoted string (in CSV files you lot should double quotes inside the quoted string) or non-English character encoding (not in UTF-8 encoding).
Replace or delete source files
If yous have an error in the source file and then you can ready it and upload the file again with the same file proper noun – you lot volition need to confirm that y'all really want to supercede the uploaded file. When you will import the replaced file then at first all previously imported rows from the previous file volition exist deleted and after that rows from the new file volition exist imported.
Yous can supersede also successfully imported source files. If you regularly perform full export of your information from some source system and so yous can always utilize the same source file name and supersede the previous version with the new ane and replace all imported data with new.
You can also delete either successfully imported files or files in mistake status. When deleting the source file you need to specify if you want to delete but the source file or to delete also all imported information from this source file into the data cube.
Import additional source files
If y'all volition import additional data with the same source file structure (east.g. if you each day, calendar week, or month import new data for this time catamenia) then use a unique file proper name for each fourth dimension menstruation.
If the new source file has the same structure (same column names and data types) as the existing imported file then columns mapping volition exist copied from the already imported file. After clicking Preview yous will be able to import it past clickingBeginning import.
Note that all data cubes in 1 eazyBI account share the same dimensions. If you want to apply the same dimension in different data cubes then use the same dimension name. If they are different dimensions so utilise different dimension names (even when you apply different information cubes).
Import additional measures in source application cubes
If you are using eazyBI standard integration with other source applications (e.g. Basecamp, Highrise, Jira, Zendesk or Harvest) but you would like to add boosted measures to your source application data cubes then it is possible to import additional measures from CSV files in existing source application information cubes.
Simply there is too a risk that you lot will not gear up correctly additional data in CSV files which may consequence in damaged existing source application data. Delight view additional data import instance for Jira Issues cube. If necessary contact eazyBI support and depict your need and we will help yous gear up correctly CSV files with additional data.
