Dr. Kibert teaches a newly adult graduate form on Sustainable Construction at the University of Florida likewise as continuing education courses to industry on the subject. He organized the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Construction held in Tampa, Florida in November 1994, an event attended by 300 construction industry people from 30 countries. He also organized Green Building Materials '96 held in Gainesville, Florida in June 1996. He has published over 90 papers and books and edited several publications on construction and the environment and related issues. He is the author of Sustainable Construction: Green Building Design and Construction (John Wiley & Sons, New York, 2005; 2nd Edition 2008). Along with colleagues from the Departments of Organized religion, Political Science, and Forestry, he recently completed a volume on the ethics of sustainability for John Wiley & Sons, Working toward Sustainability: Ethical Decision Making in a Technological World. He holds a B.S. (General Engineering) from the U.S. Military Academy, a M.Due south. (Nuclear Engineering) from Carnegie-Mellon University, and a Ph.D. (Mechanical Applied science) from the University of South Florida. He is a USGBC LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) and a Light-green Globes Assessor (GGA). He has served as a consultant on numerous greenish building projects, and directed the blueprint and construction of the laurels winning Rinker Hall, the first LEED gilt certified building in Florida and which was listed equally one of the American Found of Architects Commission on the Environment (AIA COTE) Peak 10 dark-green edifice projects. He has been the keynote speaker and lectured on sustainable structure in the U.Thou., Frg, Lithuania, Finland, Italy, Canada, and the U.S. He is a Registered Professional person Engineer in Florida, a Chartered Engineer in the U.M., and a mechanical and electrical contractor in Florida.
Dr. Kibert was the Project Director for the creation of Sustainability Codes for the Abacoa Project on behalf of the country developer and the owner, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. These Codes are a sustainable or dark-green development and construction overlay on the standard construction documents used in construction. They are designed to make the Abacoa development the start customs in the world specifically built using sustainability principles for its content.
Dr. Kibert was the Project Manager for Summertime House, a demonstration of green construction, to be located at Kanapaha Gardens, an ecotourism attraction in Alachua County, Florida. He has also worked with the Neighborhood Housing and Development Corporation in Gainesville in the renovation of derelict structures into high performance homes. He was the Project Manager in the creation of an innovative educational outreach programme for Florida edifice contractors: "How to Build Green and Profit." This standing education course, completed in March 1996, is expected to attain all Florida builders within 2 years, resulting in a dramatic impact on the way structure is performed in the State.
